Switzerland has a FIT law.
The main laws are the Federal Energy Law (Energiegesetz vom 26. Juni 1998 (EnG)) and the Federal Electricity Supply Law (Bundesgesetz ueber die Stromversorgung) of 2007.
In 2007, the Swiss Parliament has amended the feed-in tariff system. The amended Energy law prescribes feed-in tariffs for hydro power up to 10 MW, photovoltaic, wind power, geothermal power, biomass and biowaste. The volume of the tariffs depends on the technology and capacity.
E.g., the 2009 tariffs for solar power distingish between free standing, built-on and integrated systems. The lowest solar tariff is 0.49 SFr/kWh for free standing systems over 100MW, the highest is 0.90 SFr/kWh for integrated systems under 10 kW. The tariffs are guaranteed for 20-25 years and decrease over the years (8% in 2010) for new plants.
The support mechnaism is limited to an annual spending of 247 m SFr. In 2009, the budget was depleted in February and new applications had to be placed on a waiting list.
There currently is no legal analysis of this law. If you are a lawyer from Switzerland, and interested in submitting an analysis, or providing more up-to-date information about the current status of the renewable energy policy, we would be happy to hear form you. Contact us
