In Cyprus, a feed-in tariff scheme is introduced by the "/font>/font>Law Regulating the Electricity Market of 2003 and 2004" and the law on the Promotion and Encouragement of the Utilisation of Renewable Energy Sources and the Energy Conservation Law (as amended) (2007) (Greek).
To date, the general energy acts and the financial plans or subsidy programmes connected therewith have regulated a system of a guaranteed feed-in tariff.
This system has provided for a uniform payment of 0.22 €/kWh for all technologies. Renewable energy used in the production of electricity includes energy from wind, solar, wave, tidal, hydropower, biomass, landfill gas, sewage treatment plant gas and biogases. So far, only electricity generated within the Republic of Cyprus has been eligible.
Renewable energy is promoted through a tax of 13 €ct/kWh on the total consumption to be paid by all consumers of electricity. This tax is transferred to a special fund (Art. 7 § 1 LPRES). This fund for renewable energy is managed by a committee established only for this purpose (Art. 3 LPRES).

There currently is no legal analysis of this law. If you are a lawyer from Cyprus, and interested in submitting an analysis, or providing more up-to-date information about the current status of the renewable energy policy, we would be happy to hear form you. Contact us
