FIT programs have been introduced for most state and territory areas, but Australia does not have national FIT legislation. No information is currently available as to whether there are plans to bring in national legislation.
The state regimes are all different; they offer different tariff rates, cover different RES, operate for varying degrees of time, and place connection requirements on licensed electricity distributors.
The Council of Australian Governments (2008) agreed to harmonise FIT legislation but there has been no observable progress to date. The PDF document below summarises each of the state regimes.
